What to Expect at Your First Medical Weight Loss Consultation
By Nuluk Aesthetics
If your only reference point for weight loss programs is a gym scale or a subscription app, a medical weight loss consultation looks pretty different. Here's what actually happens during your first visit with Dr. Shah.
It starts with your history, not a scale
Before any plan gets built, we go through your full health history: past attempts at weight loss, medications, family history, sleep, and stress. Weight is rarely just about food and exercise, and treating it that way is why so many programs fail.
Lab work comes next
We run labs to understand what's actually happening metabolically. Thyroid function, blood sugar, and other markers can significantly affect weight and how your body responds to different approaches. This is where a physician-led program differs from a generic plan: the labs inform the plan, not the other way around.
Then we talk about options, honestly
Depending on your labs and goals, that might include nutrition and activity guidance alone, or it might include prescription support. Dr. Shah will walk you through what's appropriate for you specifically, including the realistic timeline and any side effects to watch for. Nothing gets prescribed without that conversation.
Ongoing check-ins, not a one-time appointment
Medical weight loss isn't a single visit. We schedule regular follow-ups to track progress, adjust the plan, and monitor labs over time, so the plan evolves with you instead of staying static.
If you've tried other programs without lasting results, a medically supervised approach might explain why. Book a consultation to see what a physician-led plan looks like for you.
