Aging is inevitable—all of us will grow old, and it will show through our abilities and physical appearance. The good news is that modern technology has come up with ways to slow down aging signs. In the cosmetic world, new methods to look youthful have come out from left and right, and one of the most effective treatments today is microneedling with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP).
What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy, as this is primarily used to reduce the signs of aging. The session involves the use of a unique roller with needles that prick the skin to stimulate collagen production. The PRP is typically included in the treatment should you request it. It is applied topically (also known as vampire facial) or intravenously, improving healing and reducing the duration of swelling and redness after the treatment.
Why Should You Have Microneedling With PRP Treatment?
With microneedling alone, it can treat age spots, scars, wrinkles, and other forms of hyperpigmentation. On the other hand, if you boost the method with PRP, the effects will be greater and you will get your desired results quicker. Usually, microneedling with PRP is used for facial treatments, compared to traditional microneedling, in which it is used to treat stretch marks and scars on other areas of the body.
Keep in mind that not everyone can be a candidate for this specific treatment. Pregnant women are not allowed to undergo this treatment. Additionally, patients who still have active acne resulting in new scarring, and those who have facial eczema or rosacea may not be allowed to get this treatment. If you scar easily or have undergone skin radiation in the last 12 months or have a history of poor wound healing, it’s likely that this won’t be a recommended treatment.
The first step to microneedling with PRP is during the preparation period. Here are some things you need to do:
- Do not tan several weeks before the appointment.
- Always wear sunblock.
- Drink plenty of water in the days leading to treatment day.
- Have someone take you home after the treatment.
- Keep your face bare on the day of treatment.
Microneedling with PRP is a relatively quick process. A topical anesthetic will be applied to your face that will need to sit for at least 30 minutes before the treatment begins.
The actual process has two steps. First is the microneedling, wherein your doctor will roll a device on your face, and this will take around 30 minutes. Blood will be drawn from your arm, which will be placed into a centrifuge that will separate the PRP from other blood components.
The second step is the application of the PRP solution that will be massaged into the treatment area after microneedling. Once the process is done, a serum or balm may be applied to your face to soothe irritation and redness.
Look more youthful with the latest cosmetic procedure because the microneedling with PRP will improve facial scars. Keep in mind that the treatment involves a series of sessions to help achieve your desired results. Schedule a free consultation to assess whether or not you’re a good candidate for the treatment, because as mentioned, not everyone is eligible for the treatment.
